I’ve never really had much venison before but I thought why not give it a try in a pie. This was soo incredibly warming and delicious and the most comforting Sunday dinner! I highly recommend giving this a go.
Ingredients – serves 2
400g beef stock
2 carrots, peeled and chopped
1 onion, finely diced
1 garlic clove, finely diced
250g venison steak, diced
1 tbsp plain flour
250g Puff Pastry
Method
Heat the oven to 165 degrees celsius.
Heat some oil in to a large saucepan. Once hot, add the venison steak and let this cook for a couple of minutes browning each side. You’re not trying to cook it! Remove the venison from the pan and add in the garlic and the onion. Stir until this a little soft and then add in the carrot for a couple of minutes. Add the venison back into the pan and add the flour. Stir everything together. Add in the beef stock and bring this to the boil for a minute and let simmer for 5 minutes.
Put this into the oven and cook with the lid on for 1 hour 30 minutes.
Remove from the oven and pop in a pie dish. Roll out the pastry and lay it on top of the pie dish, pinching it around the top. Brush over some egg wash or milk and make two small slits in the centre of the pie.
Pop in the oven and turn it up to 200 degrees celsius. Cook for 20-25 minutes.
Serve with some tasty mash potatoes!
Let me know if you give this delicious pie a try!

Love, A x
